Notarial fees are set by the Pennsylvania Department of State (4 Pa. Code § 167.3). Travel and clerical fees are disclosed before any notarization and separately itemized in the journal and on your receipt. Fees may be waived for emergency absentee ballot affidavits and where law prohibits a fee. A notary public is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice or prepare documents.

Fee questions

How the numbers work

What does it cost?
Online, $25 for the first notarial act and $10 for each additional act in the same session. Mobile, $5 per act plus travel from $45. The full table is on the pricing page; everything is itemized on your receipt.
Why is online $25 when the state fee is $5?
Pennsylvania caps the notarial fee at $5 per act and separately allows up to $20 per act for electronic or remote notarization, which covers the platform, identity proofing and the ten-year recording. Together that's $25, itemized on your receipt. Additional acts in the same session carry a reduced $5 technology fee.
What counts as one notarial act?
One signature on one certificate. A deed with two signers is two acts. A power of attorney with one signer and a self-proving affidavit is two acts. I'll count them with you before we start.
How do I pay?
Card, Apple Pay, Zelle or cash. Online sessions are paid at the end of the session; mobile visits at the table. Receipts are itemized and emailed.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Online: none. Mobile: the travel fee applies if cancelled with less than two hours' notice or if no signer is available on arrival.
Do you charge for a session that doesn't complete?
If identity proofing fails or a signer isn't able to proceed, there's no notarial fee. For mobile visits cancelled with less than two hours' notice, or where no one is available to sign, the travel fee applies.
